Realities of War

By: Abby Orlowski

Young soldier,
The true saviors.
Trying to make words come together.
Stories of laughter and tears,
Aches and torture,
Blood and bodies,
Stories of all things.
All the rough jobs.
Letters saved and read and reread.
Wives and husbands and families and friends.
Hopes and thoughts,
Enormous energy and drive, focus,
Something never achieved.
Camps at night.
Hunted,
Attacked,
A close friend was shot and killed.
Real things that happened,
Reality.
Madness.

If I Were in Charge of the World

By: Abby Orlowski

If I were in charge of the world…
No one would be out of bed before 10am.
There would always be a parking spot.
You would never run out of hot water during your shower.
If I were in charge of the world…
People would close the cereal bag so it wouldn’t get stale.
Calories wouldn’t exist.
Laundry would do itself.
If I were in charge of the word…
Every printer would work. Every time.
There would be no texting and driving.
Roommates wouldn’t be annoying.
If I were in charge of the world…
We wouldn’t have to make up snow days.
There would be no commercials.
Gas would be free.
